Barcelona superstar, Lionel Messi, has revealed he
was unable to watch most of this year’s Champions League final because
he was in Argentina.
Messi and his team-mates were knocked out in the quarter-finals of the competition by Roma, meaning their last game of the season was on May 20, six days before the match in Kiev, Ukraine.
By that time, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner had already linked up with the Argentina national team, ahead of the 2018 World Cup.
Argentina is six hours behind Ukraine, meaning it was 13.45 when the final was on for Messi.
When asked if he watched the final, Messi told Sport: “Just bits, to be honest. Not because I didn’t want to but because we were in Argentina and the time isn’t the same.
“I saw the highlights and everything that happened.”
