The accident, which attracted other pupils, resulted in a mob attack on the bus, popularly called Ajumose.
People vandalised the vehicle by smashing the windscreen and side mirror. The mob attacked the driver, a middle-aged man, who was injured.
The accident occurred near Lafia Hospital, Mokola, Ibadan. The unidentified driver was said to have also injured pupils.
An eyewitness, Isaac Ajibade, said the mob damaged the bus, adding that they apprehended the driver.
He said: “The traffic was light. Pupils were going home. Suddenly, the bus appeared and hit them, killing a secondary school girl. Passengers alighted, but the mob apprehended the driver. He was beaten up before the police rescued him.”
Command spokesman Adekunle Ajisebutu, who confirmed the accident, said the driver was recovering at Police Hospital, Eleyele, Ibadan.
He said: “The driver is in our custody. He has been taken to Police Hospital, Eleyele, Ibadan.
“The body of the pupil has been deposited at Alafia Hospital morgue. Investigation has begun.”
